HMI Logo

HMI – (established in 1986) is a sawmill and kiln-drying operation that produces some 2 million board feet of lumber per month. It utilizes such species as ash, cherry, hard and soft maple, hickory, poplar, red and white oak, and walnut. The company's products include boards ranging from 1 in. to 5 in. thick (specializing in cuts between 2 in. and 3 in.), grade lumber, timber, pallet stock, and steel mill blocking, as well as mulch, wood chips, sawdust, and shavings.

The green lumber we buy or harvest can then also be processed into one of our flagship products Redi-Rips. At Hardwoods of Michigan we are the wholesale outlet for Kiln Dried, Planed or Sanded lumber in fixed length/widths as well as random width and random length units.

Hardwoods of Michigan operates under one of the most unique systems by which all of our 200 plus employees participate in management and production standards assuring Hardwoods of Michigan’s customers the value and service they come to depend on

TCL Logo

TCL - is our boots on the ground their experienced foresters work with land owners and select the logs to be cut. Tri County Logging unit purchases and harvests all the timber for the mill here at Hardwoods of Michigan. Working mostly with the Timber itself they do the cutting, debarking, and hauling back to the mill.  Once it reaches us they mill the logs to varies configurations of green lumber that is then available for sale as green lumber or transfer it to Hardwoods of Michigan for further processing. TCL is capable of cutting boards ranging from 4/4 (1 inch) to 20/4 (5 inches) and specializes in cuts between 8/4 (2 inches) and 12/4 (3 inches).  The boards that come from our mill are of 3A common or better. Sales from the mill include Grade lumber (green), Timbers, Special Order, Pallet Stock, and Steel Mill Blocking

Tours

HMI ToursHardwoods of Michigan, Inc. is here to facilitate education about the industry and the processes which are needed to achieve the quality customers are seeking.  We have found the best way to do this is to bring them to the source.

Whether it be for better understanding or simply to see state-of-the-art machinery in production, we highly recommend taking the time to tour our facility.  We open our doors for those who would like to better understand the hardwood industry.

Our sales reps are currently organizing group tours.  For the distribution area, we will shuttle your group from a central location to our mill and return that day.  For the farther distance, we will assist in arranging schedules and organize itineraries.  Our reps are open to suggestions and would like to know of groups which would be interested in visiting.
