Green lumber is the foundation on which lumber companies base their business.  At Hardwoods of Michigan, Inc. we work hard to bring the best product to our customers.  Everyday our staff performs examinations to confirm that we are meeting and exceeding the National Standards.  Each log goes through a vigorous inspection process and some never make it through the gate.  Timber that doesn't meet our high-standards are rejected and immediately sent off to other mills and made into pallets.  Acceptable logs go through the process and are cut according to our projected needs.  The quality of the lumber we ship is just as important to us as it is to you.

SPECIES Here at Hardwoods of Michigan we work with Ash, Basswood, Cherry, Hard and Soft Maple, Hickory, Poplar, Red and White Oak, and Walnut

GRADING To make sure you receive properly graded lumber, each board is inspected numerous times.  Every tree is rated before it is cut and is re-graded and sorted after it is down.  Pallet logs and firewood logs are never sent to our mill.  When the quality timber reaches our lot it is graded a third time. Here the treasured veneer logs are sorted out while the other high quality timber travels to the mill.   While being cut into lumber the wood is examined after every trimming.  Once each piece of lumber leaves the mill it is marked according to grade and color by one of our highly trained inspectors.  Each marked piece of lumber is then packaged accordingly.  To ensure the quality of the finished pack, all shipments are made within three days of going through the mill.

PRODUCT We not only take pride in the quality of our lumber but also in the diversity of our production.  Our mill is capable of cutting boards ranging from 4/4 (1 inch) to 20/4 (5 inches) and specializes in cuts between 8/4 (2 inches) and 12/4 (3 inches).  The boards that come from our mill are of 3A common or better.

Sales from the mill include Grade lumber (green), Timbers, Special Order, Pallet Stock, and Steel Mill Blocking.

CUTTING SCHEDULE Our cutting schedule is established a month in advance. We work closely with our customers to ensure that we meet their kiln and production schedules.  The sawmill offers multiple thickness capabilities.  Cutting schedules pre-plan the grades and even more specific, the lengths, widths, and color for the specie. Primary species at our facility are: Ash, Basswood, Cherry, Hard Maple, Soft Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, and Walnut.
