Timber Log Grades
Being a fully integrated sawmill, Hardwoods of Michigan, Inc. has the need for timber procurement. Tri County Logging is the timber side of the corporation and they do just that, they purchase and harvest the timber needed to produce the high quality end product - HMI's green/KD Hardwood lumber. Trees that are harvested are the larger, older growth and it is necessary to grade them based on the clarity and length of the log.
Log Grades
SAWLOGS:
Sawlogs are primarily the second and third log of the tree. They are the logs that are used to produce lumber.
VENEER:
Logs that have minimal defects. These are primarily the first log of the trees. These logs are used to produce veneer for the face of plywood panels, cabinet facings, wood doors, furniture, etc.
BLOCKING:
Used to produce dimensional low grade lumber used for pallets, (2x4's, 3x4's, 4x4's, 3 1/2", Timbers etc.)
