What is Silviculture?
Silviculture : The theory and practice of controlling forest establishment, composition, structure and growth within a stand of timber.
Purpose of Silviculture : Silvics is designed to create and maintain the kind of forest that will be best fullfill the goals and objectives of the landowner and the governing society.
- Most Silviculture practices are applied in the course of a timber harvest. Each Silvicultureal treatment may be different, depending on the types of species, specie diversity present, plant competition and obviously the goals and objectives of the landowner.
- We believe it is important for a landowner to have at least a little understanding of what silviculture is and how a forester uses the methods of silivics towards a stand of timber. Educating a landowner with forestry related terms, gives he/she the incite needed to know what may go into managing their timber.
